Wedding Gowns

Nine Ladies Design specialises in Medieval Gowns, fully made-to-measure, for Weddings & Handfastings.

Our designs are inspired by actual medieval garments, illuminations and art, without being 'fancy dress'!

The gowns & patterns are cut using modern techniquesbased on how medieval garments would have been cut.

Well researched details add that 'little extra' to our gowns.

Embroideries are inspired by medieval stone carvings, glazed clay tiles, illuminations, etc.

The belt buckles and strap ends that we use are made from English pewter, all copies of actual medieval finds.

All our gowns are laced down the back, with handmade cords, through hand sewn holes!

We're based on the edge of the Peak District, close to the famous Nine Ladies stone circle,

in a small studio, where all our designs and fabrics can be viewed by appointment.

Our policy is to use only natural materials like silk and acetate. We rarely use synthetic fibres!

The silk fabrics are all hand-loomed (hand-woven) Dupion from India. This is not strictly

a genuine medieval fabric (but a lot more genuine than polyester will ever be).

It has a rustic feel to it, beautiful shine and the luxurious sound that only silk makes.

The gowns are all fully lined using acetate lining, also made from natural fibres.

Hems, neckline, belt and beading are all hand finished. The lacing holes in the back are hand sewn

(we do not use metal eyelets). The lacing cords are also handmade. The gowns are not boned.

The Dupion Silk comes in 80 different shades. The gown will be made to measure.

Included in the price are the belt, the pouch bag and a breathable & sturdy fabric gown cover.

For the first time in around 7 years, we're putting our prices up a little bit, due to the gradual inreases in the costs of silk fabrics, linings etc. The cost of the silk has really shot up these last couple of years. Apologies!

2018: We are currently not accepting any new orders due to new work commitments.

Sincere apologies.
